Dhaka: National Citizen Party (NCP) has taken the initiative to hold a rally in Dhaka today demanding political ban on Awami League, holding them accountable for the July massacre.
The protest rally is set to begin at 03:00 PM at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque
The event is being organized by the metropolitan unit of NCP, where some central leaders might be lined up to hold speeches. Nahid Islam, the Convener of NCP in the video message made available for city dwellers some days ago, appealed for people to come join and raise slogans for justice and political accountability.
The NCP activities go back to several torch processions through to the circular distribution campaigns from the last nine days across Capital City aiming to spread awareness so as to muster popular support behind their prime demand, which foresees prosecution of anyone found guilty of political violence that led to the massacre last July.
NCP has alleged that the Awami League must be answerable to mass killings of its innocent citizens during the days of chaos, and the Awami League should immediately halt its political activities till a proper investigation and a course of legal inquiries are conducted.
The sudden incident could attract significant public attention with the upcoming elections around the corner resulting in an expanded police presence around the Baitul Mukarram area to maintain public order.
